About Indian Medical Association
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) was founded in 1928 during the 5th All India Medical Conference held in Calcutta. Since its inception, IMA has grown into a premier national organization representing the collective voice of medical practitioners in India. Headquartered in New Delhi, IMA operates through a network of over 1,800 local branches across all states and union territories.
Our organization plays a pivotal role in shaping health policies, advocating for doctors' rights, and improving healthcare delivery systems. IMA works closely with the Government of India, World Health Organization (WHO), and other international bodies to address contemporary health challenges.
IMA's membership includes doctors from various specialties—general practitioners, surgeons, physicians, pediatricians, gynecologists, and other medical professionals. We provide continuous medical education, legal support, and professional development opportunities to our members while serving as the conscience keepers of medical ethics in the country.
The association organizes annual conferences, workshops, and CME programs that attract thousands of healthcare professionals. IMA also runs several public health initiatives including immunization drives, health camps in rural areas, and awareness campaigns on diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and tuberculosis.
In recent years, IMA has taken a leadership role in addressing emerging health threats such as antimicrobial resistance, mental health issues, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Our scientific committees regularly publish position papers and treatment guidelines that are widely followed across India.
IMA maintains the highest standards of transparency and accountability. Our financial records are audited annually, and we publish detailed annual reports highlighting our activities, achievements, and financial statements. The organization is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, with registration number S-12345/ND/1928.
